of the club "multimedia" and as well "internet" are not only catchwords of our todays world , they could no longer overlooked. Many hearing people and IT (Information Technology) - companies as well entered the "lnternet" - rsp. "Multimedia" - train. They are "up-to-date". The supplying with information for the deaf and hearing impaired is very limited because deaf and hard of hearing people can hear nothing or only to a small degree. Their information is limited on print media or on a personal, direct dialogue between two peoples. Although the "internet" has raised the information degree to a much higher level, the knowledge and information level of the hearing people is still not reached. Besides many deaf people in other industrial countries, especially Skandinavia, Denmark, France and the USA are leading on that field while Germany is behind with that . The best example is the acknowledgement of the sign language. In the obove named countries the sign language has been acknowledged years ago. The deaf community in that countries has archieved and fulfilled many aims if their own and of course the hearing people are taking now care with more sympathy about them. In Germany our sign language is still not acknowledged. And it will take a long time that this aim comes true. The communication possibilities between deaf to deaf and especially deaf to hearing people are still insufficient. Following two examples should be showed off: Subtiteling in TV is on an extremely low level. Synchonized translation from speaking to writing is an enormous aid for the deaf. Some companies are developing such systems. But we did not know how far away from practical use of their systems they are. Based on the examples shown above which were presented in an informational meeting about "multimedia" at munich, 30 people founded at the 17th of February 1997 the "Munich Deaf Multimedia Club". |
