organised by:

Bundeselternverband gehörloser Kinder e.V.

and

Elternvereinigung hörgeschädigter Kinder in Hessen e.V.

Dear parents and friends,

The European Federation of Parents of Hearing Impaired Children - FEPEDA - was founded in Luxembourg in 1990. Since then Family Meetings have been held at one or two yearly intervals in these towns: Lisbon (1991), Metz (1992), Madrid (1993), Southampton (1994), Prague (1995), Vienna (1996), and Naples (1997).

The two German organisations that belong to the FEPEDA take pleasure in inviting you to a European Meeting of families with hearing impaired children. As the second millennium dawns this Meeting is to take place for the first time ever in Germany. The FEPEDA will also be celebrating the tenth anniversary of its existence at the same time. This will be an occasion for families from all over Europe to come together - not to be missed, never to be forgotten. The theme for this meeting will be:

Achieving Equal Access for Deaf Children and Young People in the Europe of the Millennium

The lectures and discussions will be translated simultaneously into German, English, French and Spanish (probably also Russian) plus Sign Language. This leaflet contains the provisional programme. Generally speaking communication is not a problem as many of those taking part know one or more foreign languages.

The Family Meeting will take place in Bergisch-Gladbach. This can easily be accessed from the nearby city of Cologne and the Cologne/Bonn airport. Slightly further away are the airports of Düsseldorf and Frankfurt which have good rail links with Cologne. Our conference bus will bring you straight to the meeting centre from the Cologne/Bonn airport and from Cologne main station. There will also be a chance to visit the local natural and cultural beauty spots (Cologne Cathedral etc.)

We have been able to book the Kardinal-Schulte House as a meeting centre; it is situated in a large park. Bedrooms (all with shower, WC, telephone and television), restaurant, meeting rooms and other facilities are all on one site. This is an ideal place to spend a few enjoyable days. A special programme is planned for children over 6 and for young people, so that the parents can participate freely in the Meeting.

There will be a limit of 300 participants. Early booking is therefore imperative. The date on which a booking is received by the conference office will be decisive. All European countries have a specific minimum number of places set aside for them until 31.3.2000. The cost per participant covers board and lodging, conference fee, children’s and young people’s programme and transport from Cologne/Bonn airport, Cologne main station and Bergisch-Gladbach station to the meeting place.

Further details will be published in the Conference Brochure due to come out in December 1999. You can order this now. Please reserve the dates anyway here and now! 24th to 30th July 2000.

We shall take great pleasure in welcoming you to this European Family Meeting in Germany.
